CAPC’s Freight Transportation & Logistics Career Advancement Class, which is offered in partnership with Doorknob® Life Purpose Books, is designed to prepare students for a career in a field that pays good wages and hires those from a variety of backgrounds.

Instructed by Teri Haggerty, a certified life coach and organization developer, this three-week course sets students up for a lifetime of success.

Along with providing students with industry-specific knowledge, and the chance to obtain a CDL-class A, B or C permit, the course also exposes them to a variety of career-building techniques.

“I love to see each student discover who they are and successfully follow their best career path,” said Teri. “I create accountability for career progress and a place to practice being a professional in a safe and business-type setting, where mistakes can be made and corrected.”

Upon graduation, individuals are not only equipped with technical knowledge of the freight transportation field, but career skills that are applicable to other industries, as well. Students are provided with education in team-building, decision-making, networking, business etiquette and more.

“Research shows that soft skills are 85% of career success.  Why is this? Because students become employees, who then make business decisions every day for their employers,” Teri continued. “I often stay in touch with graduates after they transition into the workplace to discuss next options in their career path and celebrate their successes.”

Among those accomplished graduates include individuals who are employed as:

• a warehouse employee at Jupiter, which supplies wind turbine parts to General Electric

• the Regional Operations Manager for a moving company within four months of being hired

• a driver for the Escambia County School District

Staffing agencies, like LandrumHR, are informed of students’ completion of the course, and aid in the placement in careers at companies, including Coleman Worldwide Moving, May Trucking, All My Sons Moving, Alorica, GCE, local county systems, and more.

“It’s about starting a career, not just getting a job,” said Teri.
