Numerous teaching assistant positions are currently available at Head Start locations throughout Escambia County!

Reporting to the Center Director or classroom teacher, the Teaching Assistant is responsible for helping to implement the daily classroom schedule. Supervising and guiding children, preparation of supplies, handling issues and planning jointly with the teacher are among the major responsibilities of this position. Additionally, the Teaching Assistant works with the Teacher in actively supervising and ensuring the safety of all children in the classroom. In the absence of the teacher, the Teaching Assistant may temporarily assume the duties of the teacher. Also, the assistant will interact with parents to encourage classroom participation with their child and promote a positive learning experience.

Job Description

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt – Benefits Eligible

  • $15.00/hour: Assistant teachers only who have a high school diploma with or without a CDA credential (not to worry – we pay for your CDA Credential!)

Education and/or Experience: Must have a high School Diploma or GED. In addition, Teacher Assistants must have a national Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or a Florida Childcare Professional Certification (FCCPC) – or be enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree or is enrolled in a CDA Credential Program – to be completed within two years of the time of hire.

Experience / Requirements: Prefer applicants who have a minimum of one year of experience working with preschool children.  Applicant must meet all Department of Children and Families requirements for employment and successfully complete the forty-hour childcare class.
