Education and/or Experience: Must have a High School Diploma or GED. In addition, Teacher Assistants must have a National Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or a Florida Child Care Professional Certification (FCCPC) – or be enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree or be enrolled in a CDA credential program – to be completed within one year of the time of hire.

Experience / Requirements: Prefer applicants have a minimum of one-year experience working with children birth to five and must meet all Department of Children and Families requirements for employment and successfully complete the forty-five-hour childcare class.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Center Director or classroom Teacher, the Teacher Assistant is responsible for helping to implement the daily classroom schedule. Supervising and guiding children, preparation of supplies, handling issues and planning jointly with the Teacher are among the major responsibilities of this position. Additionally, the Teacher Assistant works with the Teacher in actively supervising and ensuring the safety of all children in the classroom. In the absence of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant may temporarily assume the duties of the Teacher. This position may float to other classrooms as needed for classroom coverage.

Physical Demands: This position requires the employee to be actively involved with children at all times.   Requires standing for long periods of time while working in the classroom and on the playground. Moderate to vigorous physical activity is required throughout the day. The employee must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, hop, and skip and are expected to sit on the floor with children during circle time and center time. The employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. This position may require the employee to ride a school bus.
