"Children Are Our
Greatest Resource"
Education
Children are
provided learning
environments and
experiences enabling
them to solve
problems, initiate
activities, explore,
question and gain
mastery through
learning by doing.
Home visits are made
to allow parents and
Head Start staff the
opportunity to
jointly develop
goals for the
children.
Parent Involvement
Parents are provided
educational,
nutritional,
medical, dental,
mental health and
social service
training with
concrete experiences
to support them in
their role as
parents. Head Start
accommodates the
working schedules of
parents by
conducting center
and parent
council/committee
meetings in the
evening. Parent
meetings allow
parents to be active
in the decision
making process of
their local
programs.
Social Services
Head Start programs
teach families how
to find and utilize
available local
community services
and resources
enabling them to
improve their
family's condition
and quality of life.
Health and
Disabilities
Services
A broad range of
medical, dental and
mental health
activities are
provided to promote
sound physical,
social and emotional
growth and
development. Total
health screenings
are provided for
infants, toddlers,
and pre-school
children. Parent
health education
teaches families how
to assess, seek help
and care for their
children's health.
A recruitment policy
reserves 10% of
enrollment for
children with
disabilities.
Nutrition
Nutrition education
is conducted in the
classroom and in the
home. Breakfast and
lunch, or lunch and
an afternoon snack
are served family
style. All meals
meet USDA/Head Start
requirements. The
meals/snacks served
support the
health-medical-dental
component.
Male Involvement
In an effort to
increase the
participation of
Fathers,
Grandfathers,
Uncles, and other
significant role
models. Head Start
solicits and
encourages the
participation of our
Head Start
childrens' Fathers. |
