 Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

PROGRAMS

 

There are two programs: Weatherization Assistance Program and Weatherization Assistance Program / Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

 

Weatherization Program Services are available to eligible residents in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties.

 

 

 

MISSION STATEMENT

 

The mission of both programs are to reduce heating and cooling costs by improving the energy efficiency of the home.

 

TYPES OF ASSISTANCE

  • Address air infiltration-weather stripping, caulking, thresholds, minor wall, ceiling and floor repairs.

  • Window and door replacement

  • Install attic and floor insulation

  • Install solar screens

  • Apply solar reflective coating to mobile / manufactured homes.

  • Repair of replace water heaters

  • Repair of replace inefficient heating and cooling units

The items listed above are the types of repairs the Agency can do.  However, what repairs the Agency can doe will be based on an inspection of the home and the priority listing from the Department of Energy.

 

* Extent of repairs to be provided are based on available funds.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

 

To be eligible, the total household income can not exceed 200% of the national poverty level.  Preference is given to owner-occupied, elderly (60 years plus), physically disabled, families with children under 12.  The 200% income guidelines are:

Note: Add $7,480.00 for each additional household member above eight (8).

 

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED

 

Before an application can be processed the following documents are required:

 

* Proof of income

* Proof of ownership (if you rent we will furnish you with a landlord agreement)

* Copy of utility bill

* Copy of Drivers License and Social Security Card

 

Note: Documents needed for the entire household are Proof of Income and Social Security Card(s).

 

DEFINITION OF A HOUSEHOLD

 

A household consists of all the persons who occupy a housing unit, whether they are related to each other or not.

WEATHERIZATION FACTS

 

Low-Income families pay an average of 18% of their annual income for energy, compared with 5% for other households.

 

The average energy expenditure in low-income households is $1,267 annually (pre-energy crisis).

 

It is estimated that weatherization services save the client an average of $368.00 annually.
